A great 8.3 magnitude earthquake hit offshore Coquimbo, Chile, on September 16, 2015, at 22:54:31.8 UTC, at a depth of 20 km, reported CSEM-EMSC.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami threat message on September 16, 2015 at 2300 UTC.
